Early Life

Evans has participated in five mixed martial arts fights, winning all five while training with future UFC Hall of Famer Dan Severn in 2004. Evans made it to the state finals competition twice after graduating from Niagara-Wheatfield High School in New York by receiving all-state accolades and weight classes for his country. Evans finished fourth in the state at 145 pounds in 1997. In 1998, he was ranked 4th in the country at 171 pounds. In the same tournament, he was the champion of the 165-pound weight class in 2000.During his early career, Evans competed for Michigan State in the NCAA Division of the Big Ten Conference. In the 2002 conference championships, he came in fourth place and lost a decision to UFC opponent Jacob Volkmann.He won the Big Ten Championship in 2003 and finished third the following year.Evans won his first match before falling to Robbie Waller in the NCAA Division T Championships after Rashad made his debut.He then faced Greg Jones, a three-time National Champion. Evans was only the fourth person in Jones’ career to defeat him. Evans then faced Purdue’s Ryan Lange in a match that he lost. He would have qualified for All-American status if he had won that match. Evans finished his career as a martial artist at Michigan State with a world-class record of 48 wins and 34 losses.
