Adam Rippon was born on November 11, 1989, in Scranton, Pennsylvania. He was born into an Irish Catholic household, and he was the first of his six siblings to be born. He was born with significant hearing loss, which necessitated surgery before he could complete his first year at Yale University. Fortunately, he was able to restore his hearing. His parents split when he was 15 years old, in 2004. Rippon began skating at the age of 10, and in 2000, he began working with Yelena Sergeeva, who taught him for seven years until 2007. He competed in numerous further junior championships before leaving Sergeeva in 2007 to join Nikolai Morozov in February of the following year.
